Sarara

Set in the remote Mathews Range of northern Kenya, Sarara is a pioneering model of conservation-led tourism where Indigenous culture, wildlife protection, and community resilience are deeply intertwined.

Located in the 850,000-acre Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy, Sarara sits at the heart of Samburu territory—home to a proud Indigenous community who have lived in harmony with wildlife for generations.

Sarara’s portfolio comprises four properties: the flagship Sarara Camp, located beneath the Mathews Mountains; Sarara Treehouses, set high in the forest canopy above elephant migration routes; Reteti House, a private lodge near Africa’s first community-owned elephant sanctuary; and new for 2025, Sarara Wilderness—a mobile, exclusive-use tented camp offering deep immersion in the wider Samburu ecosystem. Through The Sarara Foundation, Sarara funds a wide range of initiatives: Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, women-led enterprises, sustainable rangeland restoration, mobile maternal healthcare, and early childhood education. Initiatives like ‘Milk to Market’ empower over 1,200 Samburu women with financial independence, improving family wellbeing while sustaining local ecosystems.
